Board & Staff
2010 Greater Hermiston Chamber Board
President’s Message
Hello! Welcome to Hermiston!
In contrast to many other areas in Oregon and
nationwide, Hermiston’s economy has not seen the big downturns.
Unemployment is still below the state average.
The housing market has stayed strong. New businesses are
coming to Hermiston. There is no reason to believe that Hermiston’s
economy will not continue to prosper.
Whether you are new to Hermiston, or a long
time resident, Hermiston has a lot to offer. If you like the
outdoors, the Columbia River is just a stone’s throw away. The Blue
Mountains are about 45 minutes away. These areas provide ample
opportunities for boating, hiking, hunting and fishing, or just site
seeing.
Hermiston prides itself in having a great
school system. Even in difficult economic times the citizens of
Hermiston voted to completely rebuild three aging schools and make
improvements to the other existing schools. These improvements were
needed since Hermiston is the 6th fastest growing large
school district in Oregon. When these new facilities open next year
(2011), along with improvements in the other schools, the improve
infrastructure will assist an outstanding faculty in education
students in our District. Also, later this year a new University
Center will be built to provide opportunities for residents of
Hermiston to get a 4 year college degree without leaving town.
The Hermiston Chamber of Commerce is growing
and providing more resources to its members. If you are not a
member, let me invite you to join. If you are already a member, I
hope you take full benefits of your membership. Remember our
organization is only as good as
If you are a visitor, the Chamber of Commerce
can help you in providing information about Hermiston and the
surrounding area. Please do not hesitate to call our office. Our
executive director, Debbie Pedro, and her staff will be glad to help
in any way.
Hermiston
may be one of the best kept secrets in Eastern Oregon. Come and play
and come and stay. You will soon see the opportunities our community
provides your business and your family.
